About

I knew there was poverty in many parts of the world but the testimony of my Filipino friends touched me. I felt I had to do something about it. As the day passed, it became clear that since I was not a doctor or a teacher but a chef, my destiny was to feed people. It became obvious that I would feed the most needy children of the Philippines. I contacted Gabriel “Gabo” Mangubat of Dasmarinas, a long time friend. He invited me for an evaluation of the situation.

January 15, 2011, I landed in Manila. Gabo took me around. I got tears in my eyes when I saw little kids very skinny, no shoes, playing on trash and mod. After 3 weeks only we established a feeding program in cooperation with Mayor Jenny Barzaga and the Social Welfare Administrator of Dasmarinas, Cavite. At the present time we are bringing food to the children every school day. Gabo is the “Chef du Jour” and the force behind our project. He makes sure the food is not only nutritious but I quote him “colorful and tasty”.

My dream of the feeding program was to cater to the poorest, youngest and most starving. At the same time I didn’t want to reward laziness. Feeding kids, who are starting in a school program, fits very much my vision. I have great hope. I am optimistic for the future. I have got good response from people here and we already have a network of volunteers. Our future is to find other “on going” school programs and to geta Trash for Food (Children clean their city and get rewarded with food) program implemented. My wish is to deliver food in Manila’s poorest neighborhoods. Another project is to establish a very affordable Jacky’s Table Restaurant, here in the Philippines. That restaurant will serve regular paying customers and at the same time will be used for prepping the meals to go for the children. All this can only be archived if we get donations. Petit Robert Bistro is donating the proceeds of the Kids Menu they sell to the foundation. When parents feed their children, they also feed underprivileged kids in the Philippines.
